Ingham County Conservation District Service Projects

1.         Construct a Boardwalk

A raised wooden walkway would provide access to a unique old growth forest area.  This forested area could then be used as an educational site for schools and other groups in the community.  We can provide some pilings and planks for the work.

2.        Construct an Observation Platform

A wooden observation platform would enhance viewing of the river and wetland area on the property for members of the community/groups who visit the District.  We can provide some pilings and planks for this work.

3.        Restore a Grist Mill

There is a standing, but non-operational grist mill on the property.  The project would involve structural repair and restoring the mill to functional use.   A restored mill would provide both historical and education benefits.

4.        Restore an Artesian Well

We would like to repair/restore this well so it can function and provide educational opportunities to members of the community/groups who visit the District.

5.        River Walk

Create a short “U” shaped walking path along the river to enhance visitors viewing and appreciation of the riverine habitat.  One end of the path would need a short staircase, due to the sloped terrain.

If any of these projects sound appropriate for your Girl Scouts please call Michelle Beloskur or Ken Kesson at the Ingham Conservation District (517-676-2290) and to discuss additional details.
