April 9, 2008
Dear Friends in Girl Scouting,
It is with sadness that I write to share that I am resigning as CEO of the Girl Scouts of Michigan Capital Council as of Friday, April 18, 2008. I have been offered the position of Director of Communications with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University. This is a leadership position within the College and one that is a great fit for me professionally and personally. Given that there is no certainty to my future employment with the new council and the opportunity to remain in the Lansing area, it was a necessary decision to make for my family’s future. I wish the timing was better.
I have enjoyed my time with the Council and especially my experiences with the volunteers, girls, and staff who I have come to know. Although the time was short, the memories will be with me forever.
I have also come to truly appreciate and value the important mission and work that the Girl Scouts organization and the Michigan Capital Council does every day. While I am excited about this new opportunity, it is with a heavy heart that I leave this position.
The Girl Scouts of Michigan Capital Council truly has been good to me, welcoming me unconditionally and treating me with fairness. Please know that I hope to remain engaged and involved with Girl Scouting and pledge to do whatever I can to make a difference for girls and young women in this community.
The Board of Directors has appointed Rhea Thompson as the Interim CEO effective April 21. Many of you know Rhea in her current position as Director of Business Administration. She brings valuable experience in leading the Council’s financial matters and technology initiatives. Her commitment to Girl Scouting and to the advancement of girls is strong, unwavering and genuine. She is a capable advocate for girls and the Council as we continue through the merger process. I know that she will welcome your support and ideas in making the Girl Scout experience the premier leadership experience for every girl in the Michigan Capital Council.
Sincerely,
Ruth Hohl Borger, Ed.D.
CEO
Girl Scouts of Michigan Capital Council
